Smeg still has it's roots and production facilities in the town of Guastalla, Reggio Emilia, Italy. In 1956 SMEG introducced the Elizabeth Upright Gas Stove, the first of it's kind to offer safety features we take for granted today. Automatic Ignition, Safety Cut Off Valve and the first offering of an Automatic Programmer.
