Types consider
Wall Style
If you want flexibility with your kitchen layout, a wall oven is the way to go.
They can fit in a wall, at a conveniently installed height to avoid bending.
If you have a small kitchen, a single wall oven can be installed underneath your kitchen bench.
Typically in that situation the cooktop is installed above the oven.
Double ovens
A double oven is two distinct ovens, each with its own set of controls.
They allow you to bake and grill different dishes at the same time.
Even bake two things that require different temperatures and functions.
They're a great option for entertainers or large families who like to bake.
The main thing you'll need to decide is the configuration of your double oven.
Some are two full-sized ovens, and others are a smaller half-oven.
Keep in mind that half ovens tend to have limited functions and only one shelf.
Consider how much space you have in your kitchen, and what you'll be using the second oven for.
When it comes to features and functions, look at the same aspects as you would for a regular wall oven.
Positioning of a double oven needs to be considered, because both ovens need to be accessible.
Think about which of the two ovens will get the most use and install it at the right height for easy access.
Steam
Steam produces healthier food than conventional units.
Fewer nutrients are lost in the cooking process.
There are three types of steam oven:
- Stand alone steam unit - which only steams. This type isn't capable of browning foods, so you'll need to grill or fry before or after steaming to achieve browning.
- Combination steam and convection units have typical multi-functional baking, combination steam/convection modes, and steam only settings.
- Multi-function oven with added moisture function.
- Consider the type of cooking you do and how a steam option could benefit you.
What is a Steam Cooking?
Cooking with steam is not a new process.
It’s been around for years, but cooking in a steam oven has become more popular in recent times.
The name explains it all, a steam oven is the process of cooking your food using steam.
There are three main types of steam units including pure steam , a combination unit offering steam and convection cooking.
Then there are units that offer steam assist, these aid in keeping the family roast moist.
Steam units contain a water reservoir.
Water is injected from the reservoir into the boiler through a pump which heats the water, creating steam.
Cooking with steam allows you to use lower temperatures, and maintain taste, texture and nutrients.
Steam cooking retains more of the vitamins and minerals of your food, making it the healthier alternative.
Cooking in a normal unit or frying with oils and seasoning can become a thing of the past.
When you use steam to cook instead of dry heat, your food is also less likely to dry out.
